KNOW YOUR SKIN: This may seem easy because it’s your face, of course you should understand it, right? However, it’s actually not as easy as you would think! Feel your skin, does it bounce back when you press? Does it have any slip? Are your pores smaller or larger? Do you have redness? Breakouts? I always suggest getting a thorough skin analysis by a licensed esthetician or dermatologist. From there, you’ll know exactly what ingredients and formulations work best for your skin. The old ways of “oily, dry, combination” are over. We treat skin conditions, not types.
-
CLEANSING: Now that you have an idea of what ingredients your skin needs, use high quality products that are targeted to treat specific conditions. If you have excess oil, I love a mandelic or salicylic cleanser. If you’re feeling dry, opt for a gentle oil cleanser or balm. I try to use lukewarm water as to not dehydrate my skin and spend at least 2-3 minutes on this step. Get in your hairline and behind your ears, we see a lot of scary things in the treatment room and the scariest is makeup in the hairline from days ago. Most importantly ALWAYS ALWAYS use Clean Skin Club Clean Towel XL, this is a non negotiable to me. I use mine as as washcloth to really make sure my skin is clean.
-
SKINCARE: While your skin is still slightly damp, apply your skincare. Rule of thumb is to layer your products thinnest to thickest. In the daytime, I do: toner, HA serum, vitamin C, moisturizer and SPF. At night: toner, HA serum, retinol or acne treatment, moisturizer and eye cream.
-
FACIALS: As far as treatments go, every skin journey is different. I have my acne bootcamp clients who come in every two weeks for treatment and then I have my corporate girlies who come in every 4-6 weeks for Hydrafacials. Get with your esthetician to come up with a treatment plan that works for your schedule and budget. Remember, consistent products are going to treat your skin faster than any facial.
-
MAINTENANCE: Try SO hard to not touch your face unless you’re applying skincare. Never EVER pop or squeeze anything on your face, ice your face and do a spot treatment and go to sleep. Always stand an arms length away from the mirror when examining your skin. That’s as close as anyone (besides your esti bestie) should be to your face. Change your pillowcases at least once a week and try to sleep on a different pillow/side every night. I’m obsessed with my Clean Sleep Silver Ion Pillowcase from Clean Skin Club. from C. Use a free+clear detergent (I love Molly’s Suds) and no dryer sheets if you have acne prone or sensitive skin.
