4 Things To Avoid After Getting A Facial

Following the aftercare instructions that your Esthetician provides for you after a facial or any Esthetics service is super important. Doing so will ensure that you are getting the most benefit from your service each time. You are spending your hard earned money & treating yourself to a facial to not only relax, but also to benefit & improve the health of your skin.

In order to make sure that you get the best results & that your skin keeps that healthy, beautiful, after-facial-glow, follow the aftercare instructions given to you by your Esthetician. Here are some things you should avoid after a facial that I recommend in my business to all of my clients!

  1. Avoid wearing any face makeup for at least 24 hours after your facial.

Typically during a facial your skin will be professionally exfoliated in one, two or sometimes even three different ways. Putting any kind of foundation on, that is not “okayed” by your Esthetician, after a professional exfoliation of that sort can lead to breakouts and irritation on the skin. Your makeup brushes & tools can also harbor bacteria, therefore using them on your skin right after a facial is not the best idea. This is why I typically recommend waiting a full 24 hours. I also will tell my clients that even though it is not always necessary to wait longer, the longer you can go without wearing face makeup after a facial, the happier your skin will be.
    1. Avoid working out or heavily sweating for 24 hours.

This ties along with the fact that after a facial your skin has just been professionally exfoliated & depending on the treatment you have had done, it can be more sensitive than normal. When you are at the gym working out you are usually sweating, touching different workout equipment, & touching your face without even realizing it. Doing this can give bacteria a chance to spread onto your freshly exfoliated skin, causing irritation & possibly even breakouts. Skip the gym & use your facial day as a rest day!
      1. Don’t go into direct sunlight right after a facial, wear your SPF!

If you have a trip planned to a sunny island, the beach, or if you know you will be in direct sunlight for long periods of time, it is best to schedule your facial accordingly. Exposing your skin to direct sunlight right after a facial will give your skin more of an opportunity to be negatively affected by the sun & increase your risk of burning. You should always be diligent about wearing your SPF, but especially right after a facial. I apply SPF to my clients at the end of every facial, no matter what season it is!
        1. Schedule your brow waxing or facial waxing appointment & your facial appointment 24 hours between each other.

During a facial your Esthetician will most likely be using exfoliants & acids that may cause the skin to be too sensitive for a waxing service within the same day. This can vary, but as a precaution, recommending that these services be done on different days is what I have found works best for my clients.
