Salicylic acid is an amazing ingredient for treating concerns like acne and excess oil production, but how does it work in the skin to make these changes happen?
Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that is derived from the bark of the white willow and wintergreen leaves. It’s oil-soluble, or “oil loving”, making it great for absorbing excess oil production that can lead to acne breakouts.
Along with its oil loving characteristics, salicylic acid has a small molecular weight. This allows the ingredient to work deep within the skin, versus at the surface like many other skincare ingredients. This offers the skin a gentle exfoliation and helps clear out dirt and debris that can also lead to acne breakouts.
The frequency of use for this ingredient is different for everyone and is dependent on skin sensitivity. Most people can tolerate using it at least 1-2x a week, unless their skin is compromised. In that case, it is imperative to treat the barrier with healing and hydrating ingredients before introducing salicylic acid.
Salicylic acid can be found in the Clean Slate Clearing Mist from Clean Skin Club. This formula is amazing to use 1x per day in your morning or evening routine, or after a workout to help kill bacteria and prevent breakouts.
