Preparing Your Skin For Colder Months

Preparing Your Skin For Colder Months

Does your skin dry up as soon as you go outside? Places that experience all seasons, many of us suffer from dehydration due to a lack of humidity and temperature fluctuations. As a result we experience things like tight, flaky, and reactive skin. If this sounds like something you experience I’d encourage you to take a hydrating and reparative approach to your regimen. Here are a few easy tips to protect your skin against the harsh weather.

Exfoliate Less

I know exfoliating is all the rage right now- but it’s so easy to over exfoliate the skin causing even more dehydration and possibly a compromised skin barrier. Instead, opt for an enzyme exfoliant to gently exfoliate only 1-2x a week (maximum). Your skin will thank you, trust me.

Hydrate

Hydration benefits the skin in so many ways such as calming inflammation, replenishing water content in the skin and improving the skin barrier. Remember to drink enough water, and if you use a lighter moisturizer during the summer- it's time to unpack or go find a heavier moisturizer for the fall and winter. Also, one of my favorite products which you can add in addition right before applying your moisturizer is the The Pineapple Glow Mist. It has key ingredients such as: Hyaluronic Acid, a popular ingredient that can hold 1000x its weight in water. Glycerin, a supportive humectant, found naturally occuring in the skin, that helps to bind water into the tissue to help keep hydration in! Last but not least, peptides to help boost the production of collagen, lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and boost hydration. Remember: happy skin is hydrated skin!

Treat

If you struggle with acne, you should still try and switch to a more hydrating routine in the winter. Instead of packing your routine with exfoliating cleansers, masks, and serums (and forgetting to moisturize), try to just spot treat your acne instead or bring your routine down to one acne-fighting product. Also- with the rise of acne mechanica [maskne] it’s important to take care of the skin under your mask. Luckily, Clean Slate Mist has got you covered with: Salicylic Acid and Willow Bark with it’s soothing and clarifying properties to keep breakouts at bay. Rose Extract is a powerhouse in antioxidants, calming redness and hydration. Try your best not to pick at your breakouts to lessen the risk of spreading bacteria and severe scarring.

Protect

When choosing a winter moisturizer- select one that’s rich in emollients. These work to keep the skin soft and supple while those temps drop. For extra protection, I like to use a dimethicone based product to create an occlusive barrier! And don’t forget that the sun is out all year long- so make sure you’re protecting all of your hard efforts with SPF- everyday.
