Which Skincare Ingredients Are Best for After Sun Care? (And Why)

Even if you are usually very diligent with your sunscreen application, sun burns can happen! Of course, prevention is the #1 priority, but if a sun burn does occur, the aftercare becomes equally important. Remember, a tan or sun burn of any severity is cellular damage that can lead to hyperpigmentation, premature lines & wrinkles, and skin cancer. Keeping the skin hydrated, moisturized, and protected is imperative. Here are some helpful ingredients to get you through the healing process:

  1. Niacinamide: Also known as Vitamin B3, is an antioxidant that aids in cell repair, reduces inflammation, and helps to prevent moisture loss and dehydration.
  2. Peptides and Ceramides: Both of these ingredients help to ease inflammation, improve skin barrier & cell health, aid in moisture retention, and help to protect your skin from environmental damage.
  3. Chamomile: A powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage, soothes inflammation, and aids in cell renewal.
  4. Zinc Oxide: A common sunscreen ingredient that has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.

These ingredients can be found in products like cleansers, gels, moisturizers, and sunscreens. They are not only amazing ingredients to help your skin recover from sun exposure, but staple ingredients to add to an everyday skincare routine!

The Routine Needs bundle has you covered containing these soothing and and restorative ingredients like niacinamide, peptides, and ceramides.

Be sure to avoid physical and chemical exfoliants while your skin is recovering from a sun burn. If the burn reaches the point of blistering, reach out to your health care provider as you may be experiencing a second-degree burn. Be kind to your skin during this time, but also be kind to yourself. Even estheticians experience sun burns occasionally!
