1. Too Much Exfoliation Will Cause Damage
Your skin has a barrier that keeps it healthy and hydrated, but when that barrier is damaged it lets in bacteria, inflammation, which leads to acne. Exfoliating the skin too often will damage the skin barrier. I always recommend my clients only exfoliate 1-3 times a week depending on the skin type and skin concerns. There is a balance, you just have to find it!
2. Exfoliating Can Improve Product Penetration
It’s true! Exfoliation leaves a clean slate for your serums to get deeper and work more efficiently. Exfoliation works by shedding the build up of dead skin cells leaving the perfect environment for serums and creams targeting specific skin concerns.
3. Exfoliation Can Help Treat Acne
Exfoliating is actually very important for someone experiencing acne. Acne is caused by a build of of dead skin, oil, and bacteria that can lead to inflammation and eventually cause papules and pustules. Exfoliating with an ingredient like Salicylic Acid will help to control the build up of bacteria and dead skin to prevent future breakouts. Salicylic Acid works by getting deep into the pores and dissolving the oils and bacteria. It’s very important to always moisturize and wear SPF after using an exfoliating product.
